Financing for Peruvian infrastructure project receives regional recognition

October 04, 2021 – Aleatica, an international operator of transportation infrastructure in Latin America and Europe, was recognized by LatinFinance for a $350 million-dollar financial transaction that will expand and improve the Autopista del Norte (Aunor), a concessioned highway that stretches 356 kilometers along the northern coast of Peru, connecting the cities of Pativilca with Trujillo, as well as several urban centers, industrial areas, and ports.

As a result of the transaction’s complexity and its positive social impact, it was awarded the LatinFinance Infrastructure Financing of the Year Award for the Andean Region. This project to expand and improve the Autopista del Norte will contribute positively not only to Peru’s overall competitiveness, but also to road safety, given that the alternative routes built will make it possible for cargo traffic to avoid entering several urban centers.

The collaborative public-private financial operation was a real victory for those who participated and for Peru, particularly given that it was finalized in the fall of 2020 during a time of political and economic challenges for the country. The local and international financial institutions that joined this effort included: Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Banco de Crédito del Perú, COFIDE, Banco Santander, Itaú Corpbanca, BID Invest, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, and ING Bank N.V.

The participation of BID Invest is a testament to the value that the Aunor highway expansion will bring to Perú. “With this operation, BID invest supports the reactivation of the Peruvian economy by financing a project that will improve the connectivity of the country, supporting agricultural, industrial and tourism activities. Further, an improvement of the transportation network will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions.” The project itself is in line with the core values of Aleatica that focus on safety and the development and operation of sustainable transportation infrastructure.
